The highly anticipated “Friends” reunion special has hit another snag.

HBO Max Chief Content Officer Kevin Reilly gave an update on the status of the reunion explaining that despite “interest” from fans and those involved in the series, they are not at a point to give the go-ahead and thus, the project remains in limbo.

“There’s interest all the way around, and yet we can’t get interest all aligned to push the button on it,” he told Variety at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. “Today, unfortunately, it’s still a maybe.”

Back in November, there were rumblings of a reunion special with the sitcom’s stars Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt Le Blanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer.

Series creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane were also interested in the unscripted special.

According to Deadline, the reunion has been stalled because of financial “negotiations.”

“Because of the impasse and the big, eight-figure gap between what the cast is seeking money-wise and what the studio is willing to pay, sources close to the situation consider the special not happening as of right now,” the report continued.

Aniston, who played Rachel Green, even teased the special during an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in October telling fans that “something is happening.”

She also made it clear to “The Ellen Show” host Ellen DeGeneres that the one-off reunion is not a reboot or a revival, meaning the cast will appear as themselves and not as their beloved characters from the '90s, Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler, and Ross.

On the bright side, even if nothing happens, we’ll always have re-runs.

HBO Max will still be the new home for former “Friends” episodes following the show’s departure from Netflix. Episodes will begin in May when the streaming app launches.

The sitcom ran for 10 seasons from 1994 through 2004.
