Winter Storm Update: School Closures
Sarah Pepper

Brian Ching, Corey Ashe, Rico Clark and Cam Weaver along with staff from the Houston Dymamo headed to Newtown for the MLS soccer night out. They joined around 30 MLS players . The entire event was planned by Dynamo President Chris Canetti who is from the area.

I can’t say how proud I am of the Houston Dynamo. Brian and I were having dinner last Friday and he was telling me about this event and I thought it was amazing. I can’t imagine what these kids and parents have been through and Chris Canetti, who is from the area, had organized a night for these kids to come out with their parents and just have a night for them. Something, I am sure, they haven’t been able to do in a long time.

I know people battle back and forth that celebrities and athletes aren’t role models but I think you don’t have to look much further for role models then at BBVA Compass Stadium. I think and have always thought that people have the choice to rise to the occasion. Celebrities can say they don’t wanna be role models, fine, then don’t but when athletes and celebrities chose to use their star power to make a difference I will point it out and give it recognition every time.

I believe we all have the power to make a difference and some have more resources than others but every day we all have the choice to make that difference or take the easy way out.  It truly does warm my heart to watch, not only the Dynamo but MLS players, both male and female, from all over the  Country to gather together to help a community heal.

Joining the Dynamo were LA Galaxy’s Landon Donovan, the New England Revolution’s Matt Reis, soccer legend Mia Hamm and the San Jose Earthquakes’ Marcus Tracy who grew up in that area and his mother once taught at Sandy Hook Elementary.
